TCL - THE TELEPHONE CALL LOGGER. Copyright (C) Gordon Henson 1992, 1993.
TCL can be used to monitor your telephone usage. Each call you make is logged
and you can print a statement to check against your BT bill. You can use the
system to distribute call charges to different account codes and produce a
separate statement for each account. If you have a modem installed you can use
it to dial calls automatically, like a telephone with an unlimited number of
memories.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
TCL runs under DOS or WINDOWS (in a DOS window) and requires about 200k of
memory and 300k of disk space, when installed. TCL can run from floppy or
hard disk on XT or AT machines with colour or monochrome monitors.
TCL has been tested on a 4MB AMSTRAD 1386 and a 2MB 286, both with hard disk
drives, and an AMSTRAD 1640 and an AMSTRAD PPC512DD, both with twin floppies
and no hard disk.
STARTING UP
1. Type CD C:\TCL and press return to set the default directory.
2. Type TCL and press Return. TCL will start up and show a help screen.
3. Read this screen to learn how to move around within the inbuilt context
sensitive help system. Note the use of ALT I to get an index of help
topics. The help keys are also explained in the file HELPKEYS.TXT, which
can be printed under DOS with the command <COPY HELPKEYS.TXT PRN>.
4. Press <Esc> to leave the help system. After a 2 second pause another
help screen will appear.
5. Press <Esc> to leave the help system. The main TCL menu screen will be
displayed.
6. Try out the various menus, pressing <F1> frequently to find out how to
operate TCL. You probably wont cause any damage doing this but once you
have become familiar and practised in the use of TCL it might be an idea
to use the TCL Utility to clear out the log file before you start to use
TCL in earnest. Use the TUTORIAL FACILITY (press <T> at the main menu.
7. You can set up your own telephone directory and make calls in the following
steps (keep pressing <F1> for more detailed information):-
a) select the Directory menu from the initial bar menu;
b) select the Create option to set up a directory called (say) FRIENDS.DIR;
c) select the Choose a directory option and select FRIENDS.DIR from the
list of files;
d) select the Add an entry option;
e) complete the fields in the entry form window;
f) press <Esc> to register the number you have just added;
g) repeat steps d to f) for each number you want in the directory;
h) press <Esc> to leave the Directory menu;
i) press r to select the Ring a number menu;
j) select the Dial a number option;
k) select the number to ring from the displayed list;
l) at this point the "LIFT THE HANDSET" window will be displayed;
m) if you do not have a modem connected then manually dial the number;
n) when the number answers press <Return> to start the timer;
o) when the call finishes press <Return> to stop the timer;
p) after looking at the Call Statistics press a key to return to the Dial
a number option of the Ring a number menu.
8. When you decide that you want to start using a modem to dial calls for
you then you should use the modem configuration facility within the TCL
Utility to set up the COM port number and any other modem details needed.
9. If you dont have a modem but would like to have calls dialled automatically
there will be an autodialler card available soon at a cost of about ^£60 - a
good deal less than the cost of a modem. If you are interested then mark the
order form, but DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY YET FOR THE AUTODIALLER.
10. After you have tried out TCL you should register if you want to go on using
it. When you register you will get the latest version of TCL, without the
superfluous messages, together with a printed manual and you will qualify
for the the helpline and update facilities.
11. TSR programs are notoriously temperamental when run at the same time as
other TSR programs. If you get problems and you cannot run TCLTSR as the
only TSR, try altering the order in which you start up your TSR programs.
The hotkey combination for the TSR is <CTRL + RIGHT SHIFT + P>.
